1964 MGB Race Car – Group 44 Tribute
This competition-prepared 1964 MGB represents the pinnacle of vintage B racing. #44 was purchased from Huffaker Engineering where it was built / maintained and has been recently upgraded with a zero-hour Dave Headley race motor. The car has earned its credentials with poles, podiums, and wins in West Coast vintage racing, and continues to turn heads as a meticulously executed Group 44 tribute with period-correct green Huffaker low-profile windscreen, custom lightweight wheels, and Vintage 31 aluminum seats.

Competition History
Campaigned successfully in vintage events throughout California, this MGB has proven itself a front-runner in its class. The car comes with comprehensive documentation including a full binder of receipts and build records complete with a current CSRG logbook.
Presentation
The striking Group 44 livery immediately identifies this car's heritage, while the green Huffaker windscreen and matching custom lightweight wheels complete the period-correct aesthetic. The car rates 9.5/10 mechanically and 9/10 cosmetically—ready to race or display.

Engine – Fresh Dave Headley Build (Zero Race Hours)
Power comes from an overbored 1800cc five-main motor built to exacting race specifications at 12.8:1 compression. Headley's attention to detail shows throughout: block machining for improved lubrication and longevity, knife-edged crankshaft, custom J&E pistons with Pauter rods, fully race-prepped head, and Headley's signature wiper-tip rockers for enhanced valve lift. The wet-sump system feeds through an external oil pump to a System 1 filter and Peterson regulator before cooling via a 15-row Setrab cooler. A manually-operated Accusump in the passenger footwell provides critical pre-start lubrication. We worked very closely with Dave in late 2022 on this engine and it was the last one he built. It has been sitting in a crate and is now installed and ready to be used as it was intended. The engine has only seen cam break-in time—it's ready for the track.

Drivetrain - Competition Spec Throughout

A new Tilton single-disc metallic racing clutch feeds a Quaife all-aluminum dog box providing lightning-fast shifts and significant weight savings over stock units. The close-ratio gearing delivers a usable first gear that keeps you on the cam at all times, even out of the slowest of corners. Zero race hours on this freshly serviced gearbox.
The rear end features a Quaife clutch-type limited-slip with 4.3:1 gears housed in a hybrid banjo-to-tube carrier—offering both strength and weight reduction while enabling quick ratio changes. This setup adds beneficial camber and toe characteristics for improved corner entry.

Handling - Thoroughly Developed

Custom headers and exhaust allow us to position the car as low as possible. Front spindles have been dropped to raise the roll center and eliminate bump steer, with further adjustability via quality heim joints and spacers. A front sway bar on heim mounts controls body roll while maintaining feedback. Fresh shocks and polyurethane bushings throughout provide exceptional driver communication.
At the rear, de-arched and lightened springs with optimized rates work with a Panhard bar for lateral stability. Dual master cylinders with cockpit-adjustable bias bar allow precise brake balance tuning.
